料理: 寿司 方面: 丸の内 レストラン: まんてん鮨 2.5/5

This was quite special, but not entirely in a good way.

This restaurant clearly knows a lot about how to make good sushi and clearly distinguishes itself from ordinary sushi restaurants. They serve the sushi piece by piece, the chefs put the soy sauce on there themselves and a few pieces are served in original ways that I haven't seen before. Furthermore there's a handful of interesting side dishes mixed in.
The sushi is still superfresh when it's served, because it's served piece by piece, the rice is nice and warm and some of the originality is great! However, what it all comes down to is the end result and how the sushi actually tastes and that severely disappointed. The fish wasn't very tasty at all, so much so that'd I could consider calling the miso soup the best part of the meal. The !2 pieces! of Uni specifically were very bad. It was very original to have the Sushi be put in my hand and eat it that way, without seaweed, but unfortunately taking away the seaweed and putting a lot of Uni on there left a bad aftertaste in my mouth, which is a no-no for good Uni. The rest of the pieces were also relatively tasteless compared to other sushi of this caliber.
In the end it's still a pretty good meal, but not nearly good as it'd seem looking at the pictures or the way they run their restaurant. I'm surprised this restaurant has such a high rating on Tabelog, but maybe many people don't actually taste what they eat properly? Either way, I definitely won't be back, because for 5250JPY, I can eat better sushi 10 days in a row, only a 2 minute walk away at エチカ池袋店.

Rating: 2.5/5

Best Piece: えび - Prawn
Worst Piece: うに - Uni (both of them)
